St. Patrick's Day

I love St. Patrick's Day! We had a wonderful day! A "leprechaun" came into our room and messed it up! There were books, papers, and chairs everywhere. He also left some gold coins and green glitter around our room. It was also the day before my birthday so I had a special leprechaun put up balloons for me. It was very sweet. The kids were so excited! We did some writing, sequencing the steps of catching a leprechaun. We also did some shamrock math on the Smartboard.

Painting Chalices

To help us prepare for our First Eucharist coming up in May, the kids painted chalices.  A few pics of the painters at work :) And a BIG thanks to the moms who helped with this, especially Mrs. Huff!

I saw an owl art project  on Pintrest and thought it'd be fun to do with the class. Some kids were more creative than others haha. It was a neat way to express their artistic talents!

Homophones

W

We've been working on homophones and homonyms. We did a matching game where each child had to find their "homophone" match. We also each created our own homophone "thinking page." The students did well with them.

American Money vs. Chinese Money

My husband brought home some extra Chinese money, so I thought it'd be neat to compare and contrast Chinese and American money. We found some similarities and some differences. They kids came up with some that I hadn't even thought of!

Skyping with China

My husband is currently in China, studying with his Xavier MBA program. He called us on the phone and the kids got to ask questions. He showed them what their money is, Yen. He taught them how to say hello and thank you. They kids asked some good questions! After we hung up with him, we did some research on the Great Wall and China in general.

Lucky in March

During Reading yesterday, we made some book recommendations.  We wrote our favorite books and why we liked it then, illustrated a picture of the story.

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess

When the kids came in, I had "green eggs and ham" waiting on their desks. It was green Reese's candy and gum. Don't tell the principal we had gum ;)
Some of the kids doing our Dr. Suess word search...
Mrs. Peters brought our 5th grade buddies to read to us!
Our buddies brought Theodor Suess Gisel with them who read Dr. Suess books to the kids.
Cat in the Hat also stopped by and brought a little goodie bag with a Dr. Suess pencil, bookmark, and sticker.

Caterpillar Contractions

We've been working on contractions in spelling, so we created some Contraction Caterpillars! The kids were very creative with it :)
