Polar Express Party

The week before Christmas we had a Polar Express Party. We had read the book and did some activities and journal writing with it. I let the kids bring their pajamas, slippers, and stuffed animals to watch the movie. We had tickets, ate cookies, and drank chocolate milk. The kids had a lot of fun!

Christmas Party

The Friday before Christmas, we had our classroom Christmas Party! It was a blast! The kids did Mass and did a wonderful job, then we came back to the classroom to party. The moms thought of some very fun activities and brought some delicious snacks. Thanks moms, we couldn't have done it without you.

 We also celebrated Chloe's birthday!
 Cute little Santa treats
I think the kid's favorite activity was the snowman game. Each pair had to make a snowman using a whole roll of toilet paper. It was so funny.

 Another finished product!
We also made some snowflake ornaments.

 Showing off their ornaments.

Multiplication and Division

The past two weeks we've been working on multiplication and division. Since it can be a tricky concept for 2nd Graders, we tried to make it very hands on and concrete.
We used our smartboard to make groups of.

We split our cubes into "equal groups" and wrote division sentences.

Christmas Play

The kids did a great job putting on the Christmas Play. They sang some beautiful songs and all looked so nice in their holiday outfits.
 Practicing the day before.

A new member of our class

Our friend, Nicholas bought our class an Elf on the Shelf. We read the book and voted on names. We decided on the name Elfis (like Elvis). haha It was pretty creative if you ask me!
The first morning Elfis was doing Bar Modeling.
Then he hid in our cubes.
He dressed himself with our Wiki Stix.
He wrote us a note and burried himself in our canned goods.
Last Friday, he took a nap!

STARs of the Week

I apologize for being behind, December is always a busy, busy month. A few weeks ago, Brick was our STAR of the Week.
Brick brought his Dad in who used to play College Football for Illinois. The kids loved seeing the helmet and jersey!

Brick's mom brought in their two dogs. They were very cute!
Caroline was our STAR of the Week as well.
Her mom brought in a delicious cookie cake for us to eat! Clearly, the kids loved it!

Healthy Eating

The past few weeks we've been talking about eating healthy and learning our food groups. I introduced them to "My Plate" and we created our own "plates" using each food group.
We also studied how to read nutrition labels and what they mean. So if you see you kid telling you how much sugar is in something, that's probably why :)

Our completed plates!

Egypt Museum

Sorry we've been MIA lately. It's been a busy couple of months. Playing catch up starting now. Last week we went to the 5th Graders "Egypt Museum." The kids had a blast and learned a lot! We learned about the architecture, different types of medicines, types of foods, and their language. The 5th Graders did an excellent job putting everything together.
