No Dogs Allowed

This past Thursday, we went on a field trip to the Arvada Center. We saw the musical "No Dogs Allowed." It was based on the children's book. The kids got to play on the giant playground before and really enjoyed the play. A big thank you to the parents who volunteered to drive.

It Feels Like Fall

In science we've been discussing seasons. We went outside one day last week to make observations about Fall. We also did some leaf rubbings which the kids really thought was cool!

Happy Fall!

Acting, Gold Mines, and Maps

We had a very busy week last week! Trinity was our STAR of the week. She brought in her acting coach who taught us about acting and did a fun activity with us. Trinity also brought in her dad who told us a story of his Great Grandfather and his successful gold mining! It was all very interesting and exciting.
He brought in the pick that his Great Grandfather brought over from Ireland!
Miss Trinity is quite the actress!
The kids got to try acting as well.
Trinity and her mom read us "The Library Lion."

We've also been working on maps and directions in social studies this week. We created our own maps of the classroom!

Stars of the Weeks and October Birthdays

We have been busy last month and this month with all of the birthdays and stars of the weeks. We love having visitors come into the classroom and teach us knew things and read to us.

Last week, Audrey was our star of the week.
She brought in her huge diving trophy that she won!
Audrey also brought in her mom and cat, Henry.
She did a great job reading us a book about a silly dog.
The kids went nuts over the cat! ha.

Our star of the week this week was Miss Sydney. She brought in some of her family and a few special items of hers to share.
Sydney brought in her American Girl Doll, Caroline.
She also brought in her dad to teach us about investments!
Sydney's mom and little brother, Will came and talked about Sydney and brought in some yummy doughnuts. They were Halloween themed since Halloween is her favorite holiday.
They also read us a book about life lessons.

This past week we've had two birthdays as well. We've ate a lot of goodies this week! Happy Birthday to Miss Nancy! We loved the Pinkalicious rice crispy treats! Her mom and dad came to celebrate. Her dad also read us "Purplicious."

We also had Will's 8th birthday celebration this past week. His mom and sister brought in a Bronco's cookie cake. It was awesome! Will and his mom read us "Family Huddle" too!

Thank you, parents for all of the delicious treats and reading books to us!

Fiction vs. Nonfiction

The past two weeks we've been discussing the differences between fiction and nonfiction books. We've gone on "book hunts," done Venn diagrams, and sorts. I think the kids got the hang of it now!

Working with our partners to complete our Venn diagrams.
We used old Scholastic book magazines to do our fiction/nonfiction book sort.

A few of our finished products...

Complete Sentences

We've been working on the difference between complete versus incomplete sentences. We did an activity where the kids came up with their own complete sentences and incomplete sentences. They were very creative.

Religion

In Religion, we've been talking about Psalms. About once a week we will make our own books with Bible stories and listen to a Children's Bible Songs CD. This week we made one about singing to God, which went perfectly with what we're learning in our textbook. The kids really seem to enjoy it. They sing along with the music while they work on their books. It's awesome!
